Already on-site doing inspections? Capture wind data with a remote wind sensor as well to identify other sources of WTG underperformance.
Provide operators with precise external wind measurement data to help them recover lost AEP or to assess the validity of a WTG's power curve.
Standout by offering new
solutions that increase your client’s potential AEP and capacity to accurately measure the wind conditions throughout the wind farm.
Detect systemic nacelle (yaw) misalignment for all WTGs at a wind site through direct upwind or tailored wind measurements
Detect blade pitch misalignment for all WTGs at a wind site through high resolution image processing
Compare a WTG’s rated PC and/or SCADA based PC with Windborne™ generated high-resolution PC to identify power generation discrepancies
Generate an updated PC with Windborne™ after completing specific WTG improvements (i.e. WTG repowering, installed vortex generator, etc.)
Test the accuracy of the nacelle mounted wind anemometers across an entire WTG fleet
Test the accuracy of the nacelle mounted wind vane across an entire WTG fleet

Windborne™ is First Airborne’s patented flying wind measurement sensor. It’s a drone-based system designed to revolutionize wind farm performance testing. The “flying met mast” is able to measure upwind from turbines, at all hub heights, at tailored distances. Unlike costly and laborious alternative remote wind measuring devices, such as nacelle based Lidars, Windborne™ can performance test an entire wind farm fleet at low cost in a matter of days or weeks.
First Airborne has developed a wind measurement system that consists of two interdependent parts: a custom made drone and a patented payload (Windborne™).
Utilizing First Airborne’s proprietary software, a wind farm technician or a drone pilot can command the system to fly and gather unobstructed wind data at various measurement points across a wind farm.
The system’s gathered high-resolution data is then compared with a wind farm fleet’s SCADA data, analyzed and used to assess wind farm performance optimization oppportunities.
Windborne™ offers several advantages:
Cost-effective: Compared to nacelle-based lidars, Windborne offers significant cost savings for wind farm operators.
Faster testing: Windborne™ can test entire wind farms at an unprecedented scale, saving valuable time.
Unmatched precision: Windborne’s measurements are as accurate as the most accurate industry tools, verified by independent bodies like Deutsche WindGuard.
Scalability: the Windborne™ system can handle large wind farms with minimal hassle (no direct contact with turbines), unlike traditional methods that require multiple direct WTG deployments and WTG downtime.

No. The Windborne™ system requires no direct physical interaction with turbines. The operator will not experience any downtime or lose any energy.
The Windborne™ system utilizes a UAV (unmanned arial vehicle). Therefore, you would need certain permits to use a UAV for commercial purposes.
Most regions or jurisdictions require: 1) a UAV remote pilot certification, and 2) for the specific UAV device and/or owner to be registered in the area of operation.
From our experience with several partners in multiple continents, the necessary steps to comply with regulation shouldn’t take more than a few business days.
